Tracee Short, MD

Dr. Tracee Short, MD, known as “Dr. Tracee, MD,” is a renowned burn surgeon, CEO of The Traumatic Skin Institute, and serves as the Vice President of the Heath Health Foundation for Education and Research.

As a board member, Dr. Tracee, MD contributes her expertise in skin health and advocacy to help guide the foundation’s efforts to address healthcare disparities and promote culturally sensitive care. She supports the foundation’s mission by advancing programs that empower underserved communities.

With over 12 years of experience as a burn surgeon and a deep commitment to patient advocacy, Dr. Tracee, MD brings a wealth of knowledge to the foundation. Through her work at The Traumatic Skin Institute and her innovative natural skincare line, Dr. Shortee’s Butters™, she has dedicated her career to empowering individuals with traumatic skin conditions. Her passion for holistic healing and comprehensive care aligns with the Heath Health Foundation’s goal of fostering inclusive, patient-centered healthcare.

Dr. Tracee, MD received her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and completed her residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center- Mercy Hospital. She went on to complete a fellowship in burn surgery at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and served as an attending surgeon at the Baton Rouge General Regional Burn Center. 

She is a frequent speaker at both domestic and international conferences and events. A recognized leader in her field, she has been featured in major media outlets like ABC, CBS, and The Advocate. Her visionary leadership has led to impactful initiatives. During her 8-year tenure as Medical Director of the Burn Unit in Baton Rouge, she established Camp Catahoula, “Burn Camp”, a fun summer camp curated for pediatric burn survivors! Recognizing the importance of personal and professional development for her colleagues across a variety of medical industries, Dr. Tracee, MD hosts boutique wellness retreats that intertwine her love of luxe nature experiences and great farm-to-table food.

Recognizing that those interested in pursuing healthcare fields need more than just advice, Dr. Tracee, MD founded MedSurf Co-Living Solutions, a network offering affordable housing opportunities for medical learners. This initiative helps trainees focus on their education and career growth while easing financial burdens associated with loan repayment. In less than a year, she expanded the program to 34 rooms across seven states.

Dr. Tracee, MD is honored to serve on the board of the Heath Health Foundation, where she is eager to contribute her expertise and passion to further its mission. She looks forward to collaborating on initiatives that promote education, and innovative care for underserved communities.
